Making Plans for the Baby and the “Baby”

In a month and twelve days the month long extravaganza known as NaNoWriMo will begin. I don’t know if I’ll be able to make it this time, but I’m going for it. So far, I have the basic story idea, basic characters, and two storylines happening in the same time for the NaNoWriMo manuscript. I haven’t written it yet, but that’s a part of the rules.

How am I prepping? I’m watching the movies that inspire me to write again. I’m talking about the movies about writers. Fictional movies, not silly documentaries that don’t really inspire. So far I have only seen Music & Lyrics, but I do have other movies. My list is as follows: Alex & Emma, Stranger Than Fiction, The Ghost & Mrs. Muir, and, of course, Music & Lyrics. I don’t know why, but these movies just make me want to write. It may be because each of them have to do with the writing process. If you have ever seen these movies, these are the movies that portray the writer in me accurately. It helps that the people who write these movies are themselves writers. Though my list is small, hopefully they will help me out. If anyone know of any more, please recommend me some.

As for the baby, we have a crib, crib bedding, and various baby needs. Luckily, none we’ve really had to pay for. The baby sure is lucky to be so spoiled. I really can’t wait to start feeling the baby. I’m excited.

  1. The Nano is definitely a challenge. I have only competed twice, I did finish them both but I do not know if I have the time to compete again. It drains you and you need your creative juices flowing. Watching (good) movies sounds like a great idea, there are many movies that inspire me to write again or trigger a farm of plot bunnies. Music and Lyrics was a nice movie, I definitely agree with the analogy they made about the two.

After watching the movie Black Swan it made me want to write, even though it has nothing to do with writing. The dark, edgy aspects of the film inspired me. I’m probably thinking about ballerinas because of my picture it & write post on ermiliablog. I’ve noticed that watching good television series like Dollhouse (in my opinion) makes me want to write because I watch as the story unfolds and I am aware of the plot. A movie flashes so quickly in comparison (a mere two hours) that often I forget about the ‘behind the scenes’ work of the writer guiding the story.

Good luck with your baby arrangements and the Nano preparation! 🙂
