Oh my god! This book has everything that a horror junkie could ask for. There is paranormal abilities, sex, drugs, cult thinking, and a dash of something that if I told you I’d be spoiling the fun! Seriously, this book is amazing. What makes it even better is that it’s free! A free Kindle book!
JL Bryan weaves an intricate story, but makes it seem edgy and definitely for the older teens and adults. The sex is explicit in parts, but isn’t rampant. What really makes me happy about this book is the ending. The final chapter is epic and could suffice as a stand alone, but I am glad that there are two other books in this series. I don’t know what I can say about this book without giving out spoilers, but I will try.
Basically, the book is about a teen named Jenny Morton who has the ability to spread a plague through touch. She is like the literary counterpart of Rogue from X-Men, only instead of running away she sticks to her tiny Southern hometown. There is the antagonist, Ashleigh who I am absolutely in love with. She has everything that makes a villain a villain, without sacrificing her femininity. The love interest is Seth Barrett, a name I absolutely love. He is Ashleigh’s boyfriend and is the popular boy. Sure, it seems like a cliche’, what with the loser Jenny and awesome Seth, but this book is more than that. There is an intricate plot made by Ashleigh that keeps you on your toes. And then the climax makes you realize just how badass Jenny really is. Honestly, this is a book to read. Since it is free, you don’t really have to worry about spending any money! If it isn’t your cup of tea, you can just delete and forget. However, if you’re like me, and love stories that leaving you hungry for more, you will be hooked with JL Bryan’s work within the first few chapters. Guaranteed.
