With light beings and mysterious strangers complicating their plight, can the boys defeat the evil Druth before it’s too late? Get prepared for the twisting and grinding of this award-winning, action-adventure story — an edge-of-your-seat narrative for young and mature readers alike.

I received a copy of The Urban Boys: Discovery of the Five Senses for and honest review. What follows is my opinion and mine alone. There was no compensation for this review.

Discovery of the Five Senses is a fast paced young adult contemporary fantasy where five boys have to save everyone and everything they love from an evil force name Druth. The story starts off running and doesn’t really slow down until the end, making the book an easy one sitting read on the weekend. Perfect for the coziness of fall weather, there is a spooky factor right in the beginning when a couple witnesses a brutal murder.

The book is written with six point of views all in third person. Each chapter has multiple point of views. The format reminds me of teen TV shows like Gossip Girl or Pretty Little Liars where the characters all have their own little set up scenes and moments together. Because of this, the book has a quality that may seem familiar and like watching a show.

The characters are okay but it’s the use of the five senses that has me applauding. Usually, when super abilities are addressed, we are looking at the elements or psychic abilities. The use of the senses is different and interesting, leading to situations you may not expect.

All in all, the book is a quick read and perfect for a cozy stay indoors when you just want a lot of action but not watch TV.
