First, I should begin by telling you that a friend recommended this book and boy am I glad she did. It got me from the first chapter and kept me going.
I’m a bit oversaturated by the young adult age of reads I’ve been doing lately, but this one was just a step above the average YA read. In fact, I guess you could call it a New Adult. It has a darker feel than normal paranormal romance YA.
It’s honestly been a long time since I’ve had a “book boyfriend” and this book not only brought me one, but two. I was kept on my toes trying to figure out one thing only to be turned around with the twist. The world Evers crafted in this series is in depth and is only a taste of what’s to come in later books.
I also listened to this in audio. So, the narrator isn’t bad, but the narration speed itself can be considered slow. That said, all you need to do is speed up the process and the story itself keeps going.
Like I said before, the first chapter got me fast. You are pulled into the story from an accident that feels like it came out of a Jeepers Creepers movie. A bus full of students and everyone goes missing. Not only do you find out what happened to them, but it fits so well with the rest of the narrative that you are left wanting more.
All in all, it was a very good beginning to a world I definitely plan on returning to.
