There is need. And then there is Fate. Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn’t exactly awesome–especially when Alexandria’s other half is everywhere she goes. Seth’s in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom–so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do–and sacrifice–for her. When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies–lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon–and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn’t blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude–or killing her. When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.
This is the second book in The Covenant series by Jennifer L. Armentrout and god did it take forever to read.
I did not care for this book. It’s a high two or three in a Goodreads scale. I honestly tried to like it, but it was difficult to get through. There wasn’t much going on aside from Alex trying to understand why Aiden was sending mixed signals.
Now, that isn’t to say that there weren’t Daemons. There were, but I wish there was more going on in that front.
There was a bit of action around halfway through the book and there is a death. It’s after that that Alex is sent to the main headquarters of the Covenant. Now, this was already set to happen, but it felt… meh.
I am glad to see more of the world Armentrout imagined and the Covenant was interesting. However, I felt bored until the very end. That was filled with action.
In all, I didn’t feel like there was much growth in the characters (except for Aiden). The story was so-so and the lack of action in the book turned me off. I am still interested in the world and the Apollyon mythos though. I do have the third book and I do plan on reading it someday.
