Book #82: The Ghost Files 3 by Apryl Baker

One, two, the ghosts are coming for you…
Three, four, better salt your door…
Five, six, death and hatred mix…
Seven, eight, help will come too late…
Nine, ten, never reap again…

Seventeen year old, Mattie Hathaway, has enough on her plate without having to deal with the latest teenage ghost drama. The ghosts of eight murdered girls are out for her blood. They blame Mattie for their deaths. She has to figure out what happened to them before they make sure she ends up just like them…dead and angry.

Not only that, but she has to face the greatest fear of her young life, the death of the only person she’s ever loved. Can she let nature take its course or will she interfere and cause the balance of life and death to spiral out of control?

She’s out of time, and doesn’t know if she should trust Silas, the demon who has taken a very disturbing interest in her or her father, a man just as evil as Silas.

Either way, she has to make a choice. But what will it cost her and those she loves?

The first thing I noticed was that there wasn’t an audio version of this book yet. That was disheartening. It meant that I would need to read it and I wouldn’t be able to visit the characters while driving. Plus, that meant I was close to what is the ending so far.

I wasn’t wrong. As of right now, book 3 is the last one published (aside from the novella). However, if you go on Wattpad, you will find book 4 in the works. That said, I was bummed that my current obsession was going to be on hiatus.

It’s always the case.

The writing is simple and quick. I was able to get through the book within a day or two (depending on how much driving I was doing. Again, wish there was the audio). The main book’s mystery with the ghost girls and some unknown serial killer felt a bit off field. I didn’t see it coming, but I really didn’t see it being a thing. I wish there was more about that so that when the revelation happened, I wasn’t feeling off.

Silas is getting more interesting. So is Mattie’s father. Both of them I have no idea what to think about. And then there is the cliffhanger, totally didn’t see that coming. Now I’m wondering who to trust aside from Eli and Dan. Also, what is up with Mattie’s visions? I’m thinking past life, but that’s my theory.

All in all, I was still sucked in. I know that some people didn’t care for this series, but the quickness of it is enough to whet my curiousity and keep me coming back for more. Now, I’ll have to wait . . . ugh.
